Issue:

In ZWCAD 2021-2023, when executing commands such as open, save, save as, or import that requires invoking the File Explorer interface, the software experiences an error and crashes, as shown in the following image.

Most of the computers experiencing this issue meet the following two conditions:

  • Dell workstations or laptops
  • Have installed and are running the Dell Backup and Recovery program

Causes:

The Dell Backup and Recovery program in Windows, in some versions, may conflict with ZWCAD, especially due to the usage of the following three DLL files within that program:

  • DBRShellExtension.dll
  • DBROverlayIconBackuped.dll
  • DBROverlayIconNotBackuped.dll

Solution:

You can try resolving the issue with one of the following three solutions:

  1. Update the software to the latest version.
    1. Open the ZWSOFT Official Website, download and install the latest version of ZWCAD.
    2. Open the Dell Product Support Website, download and install the latest version of the Dell Backup and Recovery program.
  2. Rename the DLL files under the Dell Backup and Recovery program.
    1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\Components\Shell
    2. Manually rename the following three DLL files to prevent them from loading (e.g., add *.bak to the file name, such as 'DBROverlayIconBackuped.dll.BAK'):

      • DBRShellExtension.dll
      • DBROverlayIconBackuped.dll
      • DBROverlayIconNotBackuped.dll
  3. Uninstall the Dell Backup and Recovery program if it is not used.
