Why does the Common Dialog Places Bar disappear after switching to the Windows dialog box for opening files?

Solution:

Configure the setting in the Local Group Policy Editor:

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Enter gpedit.msc and click OK.
  3. Go to User Configuration Administrative Templates → Windows Components → File Explorer → Common Open File Dialog.
  4. Find Hide the common dialog places bar.
  5. Set the policy to Not Configured or Disabled.
