Issue:
When milling the STL model, it is sometimes necessary to mill only the area above its boundary contour. How can we mill the area above the boundary?
Solution:
- In the ZW3D modeling module, use the Trace Silhouette command located in the Point Cloud section. Select the STL model for STL Model, and choose the plane along the projection direction as the Datum.
This will generate a maximum boundary contour line. - In the CAM module, use the roughing operation and select both the STL solid and the profile as machining Features.
In the Profile Feature settings, set Part Side to Right Tangent. This will generate roughing toolpaths above the boundary. - Similarly, in the finishing operation, we can add the solid and the profile as features to generate finishing toolpaths above the boundary.
