Issue:

Multiple licenses and different versions exist. In this example, there is 1 node of ZWCAD 2023 Mech license and 43 nodes of ZWCAD 2024 Mech licenses, with a total of 44 nodes.

A difference occurs between the license group settings and the actual license allocation, which causes the last group to become invalid and prevents users in that group from obtaining a license.

Causes:

When lmtools obtains licenses, license numbers from different versions cannot be merged into the same node pool. Licenses are assigned from the lower version first by default.

In this case, one 2023 node was allocated first and assigned to the Design Department. The Design Department then obtained 30 nodes from the 2024 version. As a result, only 3 nodes remained for the Sales and Purchasing Department, while 4 nodes had been reserved. Since the reserved number exceeded the actual available nodes, the allocation failed, and users in this group could not obtain a license.

Solution:

  1. Create manual groups. Add version information for ZWCAD Mech 2023 as a separate group.
  2. Modify the zwflex.opt file in the license manager installation directory, such as:C:\Program Files\ZWSOFT\ZWSOFT Network License Manager
  3. Open zwflex.opt with Notepad and find the section used for license reservation.
  4. Add version information as shown below:
    RESERVE 1 MECH_PRO:VERSION=23.0 HOST_GROUP Design Department
RESERVE 29 MECH_PRO:VERSION=24.0 HOST_GROUP Design Department
    RESERVE 5 MECH_PRO:VERSION=24.0 HOST_GROUP Manufacturing Department
RESERVE 5 MECH_PRO:VERSION=24.0 HOST_GROUP Electrical Assembly Department
RESERVE 4 MECH_PRO:VERSION=24.0 HOST_GROUP Purchasing and Sales Department
  5. Save the file after editing. Return to the license manager and select Reread License File.
  6. Verify the license allocation. The log file should show that the license assignment is working correctly.
