Issue:
In the manufacturing, civil engineering, and surveying industries, there is a significant volume of historical paper drawings or scanned copies.
To reuse these drawings for new designs, users often need to digitize them through manual tracing. This process is labor-intensive, inefficient, and costly.
ZWCAD 2025 introduces a new Raster Image Vectorization feature, which supports extracting attached raster images into ZWCAD vector entities.
This function enables users to quickly convert scanned paper drawings into vector data, significantly reducing the manual drafting workload and costs while improving overall efficiency.
Solution:
This feature is available in ZWCAD 2025 and higher versions.
- Go to Smart → Raster Image Vectorization → Vectorization, or execute the command VECTORIZATION.
- Select the raster image in the drawing area. The system will automatically convert objects into CAD entities (lines, arcs, circles, polylines). You can then refine the results using Merge, Join, or Break tools.
The software includes 2 presets. Users can select or customize these presets in the Vectorization Configure to suit different scenarios.
Parameters: In the settings, you can customize Extraction Method (Center line/Outline), Conversion Type (CAD Drawing/Contour), and adjust Binarization thresholds or Short Line handling.
Note: By default, raster vectorization supports images with a resolution up to 2048x2048. For larger images or OCR text recognition features, please contact zwcad@zwsoft.com for an activation code.
