Issue:

In the Plot and Page Setup dialog box, what is the difference between Printer and Plotter?

Solution:

  • Windows printing devices are called Printers. You can check the printers configuration in the Control Panel:
  • Non-Windows printing devices are called Plotters.
ZWCAD saves the revelant medium and plotter device information in the PC5 plotter configuration files.
You can manage the plotter configuration files in the Appdata ZWCAD directory. Executing PLOTTERMANAGER in ZWCAD can directly open the file explorer to this directory:
  • You can create a new PC5 plotter configuration file with Add-A-Plotter Wizard. which is very similar to the Windows Add a device step guide:
  • If you calibrate a plotter, the calibration information is saved in the PC5 file. If you modify the paper size info, then the information will be saved in a PMP Plot Model Parameter file. You can attach this PMP file to any PC5 file that is created for calibrating a plotter.
  • You can create multiple configuration files for the same plotter, with different export settings.
These PC5 files will be displayed in the plotter name dropdown list in the Plot and Page Setup dialog box
  • You can also create a PC5 file for a Windows printer, with export settings different from the Windows default ones as the below figure shows.
You can also select the Windows printer from the plotter name dropdown list and click Properties to modify and save the configuration file as PC5.
