Issue: 

When creating arc length dimensions, how to set the extension line direction perpendicular to the chord?


Solution

  1. Enter the system variable DIMARCEXTLINEDIRECTION at the command line and press Enter to confirm.
  2. At the command prompt:
    Enter new value for DIMARCEXTLINEDIRECTION <0>:, input 2 and press Enter.
  3. After performing an arc dimension again,
    the extension line direction will be changed to perpendicular to the chord direction.

Note: The meaning of the values for this system variable is shown in the figure below.

  1. Enter Dimarcextlinedirection at the command line and press Enter.
  2. Follow the command prompt:
    Enter new value for DIMARCEXTLINEDIRECTION <0>: enter 2 and press Enter.
  3. After creating the arc dimension again, the extension line will be perpendicular to the chord.


Note: The meaning of the values for this system variable is shown in the figure below.

Explanation of Auto setting:
When the included angle of the arc is greater than 90°, the extension lines follow the radial direction.
When the included angle is less than 90°, the extension lines are perpendicular to the chord.
