Issue:

When writing product manuals, design plans, and manufacturing plans, it is usually necessary to copy and paste the product's CAD drawings into a Word/Excel document.

2D CAD drawings are pasted as OLE object files by default, which may result in incorrect drawing boundaries, requiring re-trimming of the boundaries, as shown in the image below.

How to set the object format, paste range, and paste color for copying and pasting in  ZWCAD?

Solution:

ZWCAD 2024 and later versions support specifying the object type, paste range, and paste color for copying and pasting, which users can set according to their needs.

Open the copy and paste settings dialog box using any of the following methods.

  1. Function Area: Home → Clipboard → Copy and Paste Settings.
  2. Menu item: Edit → Copy and Paste Settings.
  3. Keyboard type: COPYCLIPSETTINGS.

It supports setting the format type of objects saved to the clipboard (ZWCAD Drawing object, metafile, bitmap), and when selectively pasting from the clipboard, you can choose which type to paste.
It supports setting the paste range (Viewport extents, Drawing limits) and paste color when pasting objects from the clipboard.

  4. Notice:
If the "Metafile" or "Bitmap" format is selected, a pop-up notification will appear in the status bar if the copying time is long (exceeding 1 minute): "The copying process takes a relatively long time."
Users can open the "Copy and Paste Settings" dialog box and uncheck the "Metafile" or "Bitmap" format to improve copying efficiency, but this will prevent the file from being pasted into Office documents.
